Welcome, my name is Amy Runge. I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and a Certified Perinatal Mental Health Provider. I have expertise in working with women’s issues, including perinatal and postpartum care, PMDD, perimenopause/menopause, anxiety, depression, chronic illness, parenting support, and life transitions. I graduated from Loyola University Chicago with a degree in Pastoral Counseling in 2008 and went on to private practice focusing on young children’s mental health before shifting my focus to women’s issues.
In 2016, I became a Hyperemesis Gravidarum (HG) survivor and learned firsthand just how difficult the journey to parenthood could be. This is when I decided to shift my focus to Perinatal Mental Health and Women’s Health. Perinatal means the period “all around” birth—the period throughout pregnancy as well as the baby’s first year (in the past, this was often referred to only as “Postpartum”).
When choosing to become a parent, the process can be harder than expected, and transitioning into this new role can be overwhelming and at times traumatic. Our cycles also play a vital role not only in becoming parents but also in every aspect of our lives. This is why I also have training in PMDD, women’s health, perimenopause/menopause, and chronic illness. We, as women, need people to fully hear us and help us with practical solutions and empathy.
This is where counseling can be helpful. I believe that therapy, like each person, is unique. I approach each client individually and believe that it is my role as a therapist to follow your pace in the healing process. The therapeutic space that I create is free from judgment; I want you to feel safe to explore ways to work towards the goals, values, and wants you have. It is my privilege to walk beside my clients and support them in whatever journey they are on.
Feel free to reach out for a free 15-minute consultation to see if we are a good match.
